Best Forts To Visit In Maharashtra
Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj one of the greatest King
of Maharashtra had 300 forts including 5 sea forts. Maharashtra
state has eminent forts, in the Western Ghats - the Sahyadri Mountain
range.
Here are my top 3 Forts picks, which are the best
spot in any season. You can likewise visit with family around the whole
year, but rainy season view is mesmerizing with waterfalls, greenery &
some natural wonders...!
1. Raigad Fort -
Hillfort
Raigad hill fort is 820 meters tall fort (2,700 ft)
above the sea level, located in the Sahyadri mountain range in the
Mahad, Raigad district of Maharashtra.
How To Reach:
Mumbai - (165.4 km) via Bengaluru -
Mumbai Hwy/Mumbai
Pune - (131.5 km) via Tamhini
Ghat Rd
- Train [The nearest railway station that is
connected to Mumbai and Pune is Veer railway station, about 40 km
away from Raigad - From the station, you can hire taxi]
- Car [ Own or rental - Simply put on google map
& you are ready to Go]
- Motorcycle
- Bus [ From Mumbai - Pune Direct buses are
available.]
Climb:
- Ropeway [ This fort has a ropeway, for those who
doesn't want to climb]
- The actual climb to
the top of the Raigad fort starts from Pachad a difficult one.
- You can use steps also.
Food:
- You may get water
& basic food but with very high in cost
- It's better to carry food

2. Daulatabad Fort
Daulatabad Fort,
also known as Devagiri or Deogiri, is a historical fortified citadel located in
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India. It is 600 feet high from the ground and
has 750 steps.
How To Reach:
Mumbai
- (342.7 km) via NH160
Mumbai - (374.7 km) via
Bengaluru - Mumbai Hwy/Mumbai Hwy/Mumbai - Pune Hwy and Aurangabad
- Air: At about
a distance of 22kms from the fort is the Aurangabad Airport which is very well
connected to many major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. ...
- Train:
Aurangabad Railway Station is located at about a distance of 15km from
Daulatabad Fort
Climb:

3. Murud Janjira - Sea Fort
Situated on an
island on the coastal village of Murud, in the Raigad district of Maharashtra,
India. Simply known as Alibaug Sea Fort. It has 2 sweet water lake inside. A mysterious tunnel that gives you the
path towards the seashore.
How To Reach:
Mumbai -
(158.6 km) via Bengaluru - Mumbai Hwy
Pune -
(182.5 km) via Bengaluru - Mumbai Hwy
- Ferry - From Gateway Of India, Mumbai
- Take a local bus to Murud Village beach - Ferry if require, you can also walk
till fort if there is no seawater
- Train - Pune to
Mumbai, then Ferry & Pune to Lonavala by road

- Can buy at the
beach
